Discussing the Discount Module

May 11, 2018
Last week we talked about the Pricing Rule module and this week we’re going to discuss the Discount module. These two have a bit in common, but they’re definitely two distinct entities, as we’ll see.

The Discount module is different than most other modules we’ve talked about so far because it doesn’t have a Search panel. The module consists of a list of discounts. To create a new discount, simply click the New button and then fill out the information requested in the box that pops up:
  • Name
  • Description
  • Income account
  • Expense account
  • Discount type: percentage or dollar amount
Once that’s done, click or unclick a couple of boxes to note if you want this discount to be taxable and/or active, and then click OK to finish.

It’s a good idea to keep the names simple, like “$10 off” or “50% discount” so that they’re easy to identify. You can offer these discounts to any customer as an incentive to purchase. They don’t have to solely apply to specific customers or products, like they do in the Pricing Rule module. We’ve come to the end of the Sales module group. Next week we’ll begin checking out the Purchasing module group.
