Are You Up to the Live Big Challenge?

The Live Big Challenge is in memory of Bryan Byrge, Fishbowl BlogBryan Byrge encouraged everyone to “Live Big.” He lived by those words, and even though he’s no longer with us, we honor his memory by participating in the Live Big Challenge. This year’s Live Big Challenge will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2015. Those that are not interested in biking at all are welcome to come from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be plenty of music, food trucks, and activities for kids. A Memorial Walk around the field will be at noon followed by a raffle and auction. Also, come meet James (The Iron Cowboy) Lawrence and listen to his story of achieving the impossible challenge of completing 50 Iron Man challenges in all 50 states in 50 days in his quest to uplift and inspire. This is the perfect story of how to Live Big! The organizers of this event have something special in store for cyclists. Not only will there be a nice, flat 20-mile course and a 40-mile somewhat mountainous course, but this year there is going to be a 101-mile Epic Loop! That last one will definitely live up to its name. All of these races will begin at the Orem Cemetery Field at approximately 1200 North 800 East in Orem, Utah.

Epic Loop – Start Time: 6:00 a.m. (100.1 Miles)

Gird up your loins because this bike course is not for the faint of heart. It has a LOT of uphill riding. It goes as far west as Midway and as far north as Mounthaven and Cottonwood Heights in the Salt Lake Valley before coming back down to Orem via Suncrest and the Murdock Canal.

Alpine Loop – Start Time: 8:00 a.m. (40.8 Miles)

If you’d like a shorter (yet still intense) challenge, try the Alpine Loop on for size. This 40-mile course takes riders from Orem up to Highland and then goes through American Fork Canyon and the Alpine Loop, hence the name.

Flat Murdock Canal – Start Time: 9:30 a.m. (20.0 Miles)

Would you prefer not to bike into the mountains? This course is right up your alley. It travels north to Highland and then loops back and comes right back to Orem. There will also be a 1-mile Memorial Ride that everyone is invited to participate in, free of charge. To learn more about this event and register for any of these races, visit the Ride Info page on the Live Big Challenge website. Let’s make this another special event in Bryan’s memory.
