Fishbowl Holds Most Ambitious Service Project Yet

On Friday, August 5, you couldn’t find a soul at Fishbowl. We closed up shop at our office in Orem, Utah and went out to serve in Fishbowl’s biggest service project in company history. About 80 Fishbowl employees (plus a bunch of family members and friends) joined the fun during the 3rd Annual Fishbowl Day of Service.

Fishbowl CEO David Williams at 2011 Day of Service, Fishbowl Inventory BlogWe went to a number of Mountainland Head Start preschools in Utah County to clean, landscape, paint and offer other service. Normally, we just go to one location and concentrate our efforts there for the whole day. But this time, we went to a total of four locations – one in Springville, one in American Fork and two in Provo.

I got to go to the Mountainland corporate headquarters in Provo and paint two sheds. My coworkers and I did a pretty thorough job on those sheds, and my clothes managed to escape relatively unscathed from all the paint, too! When we were done we rejoined the main group at the other Provo site and helped dig out old playground equipment.

Since 1978, Mountainland Head Start has provided educational opportunities to children and families in need. They serve more than 800 children at 11 education centers in Juab, Utah and Wasatch Counties.

This is the largest-scale service project Fishbowl has undertaken since it began holding its annual Day of Service. In 2010, Fishbowl employees landscaped the playground and other areas around the Provo House of Hope, a place for women and children who are victims of abuse to go for support and counseling. In 2009, Fishbowl employees organized and catalogued all the books in Cherry Creek Elementary’s library in Springville.

You can bet that as Fishbowl grows our desire and ability to serve will also grow year after year!
